Fatshimetrie, October 31, 2024 (Fatshim).- Calls for action against corruption and for more transparency in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are becoming increasingly urgent. It is in this context that the coalition “Congo is not for sale (CMPAV)” held a press conference, calling on Parliament to quickly adopt anti-corruption and access to information laws.

Jimmy Kande, a prominent member of the coalition, stressed the importance of putting in place robust legislation to combat corruption, particularly in the mining sector where foreign companies must be held accountable under Congolese law. He also stressed the need to depoliticize higher and university education by rigorously implementing the ESU personnel law.

For his part, Jean-Claude Mputu, spokesperson for the coalition, highlighted the challenges of the agreement reached with businessman Dan Gertler in 2022, urging the Congolese government to put in place clear and transparent restitution mechanisms. He also stressed the importance of respecting the law on public procurement and the need to create a semi-autonomous authority to fight corruption and promote investment.

This conference aimed to raise awareness among participants through a bulletin entitled “Kanyaka Rushwa 2”, emphasizing the urgency of fighting corruption and promoting good governance in the DRC. The recommendations of the CMPAV coalition highlight the need to act quickly and effectively to put an end to corruption and improve governance in the country.

In conclusion, the fight against corruption and the promotion of transparency are major challenges for the DRC. It is essential that the government, parliament and civil society join forces to implement meaningful reforms and ensure a better future for all Congolese.
