The situation in the Pinga region of North Kivu has become critical as M23 rebels continue to advance. The National Association of Victims of Congo (ANVC) has launched an urgent appeal to the government to take immediate measures to protect the civilian population and defend territorial integrity. This imminent threat weighs heavily on the strategic town of Pinga, located in Walikale territory.
Sadiki Mukobya Espoir, the National Coordinator of ANVC, warns of the disastrous consequences that the occupation of Pinga by the M23 could have. Indeed, this town is a vital crossroads linking the provinces of Maniema, Tshopo and Ituri, and its fall could destabilize the entire region. Pinga’s proximity to other provinces in North Kivu increases the risks of a spread of hostilities and violence, jeopardizing the safety of many civilians.
In addition to territorial and security issues, the civilian population is particularly vulnerable in this region. If nothing is done to stop the advance of the rebels supported by Rwanda, the humanitarian situation risks deteriorating dramatically. The inhabitants of Pinga and its surroundings could find themselves trapped in the clashes, facing fear, violence and increasingly precarious living conditions.
Faced with this growing threat, it is imperative that the government take emergency measures to protect civilians, ensure the safety of local populations and prevent a further escalation of the conflict. The ANVC calls for immediate action to contain the advance of the rebels and restore peace and stability in the region. It is the responsibility of the Congolese authorities to guarantee the safety and well-being of all citizens, and to protect the territorial integrity of the country.
In these uncertain times, the mobilization of the international community is also essential to support stabilization and pacification efforts in the North Kivu region. Solidarity and cooperation between neighbouring countries are essential to prevent further violence and to establish a climate of lasting peace.
Urgent action is needed to prevent an escalation of tensions, protect civilians and preserve regional stability. The current crisis in Pinga cannot be ignored, and concrete measures must be taken urgently to end the violence, protect vulnerable populations and restore peace in the North Kivu region.
