Fatshimetrie, October 26, 2024 (FTM). – The recent discussions around the development of the priority action plan, PAP-NK 2025, took a decisive turn during the official launch of this work in Goma, in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The provincial authority marked the occasion by putting forward a vision aligned with the 17 sustainable development goals, thus reflecting a clear desire to initiate significant change in the region, as observed by the Fatshimetrie team on site.

The Vice-Governor of the North Kivu province, Divisional Commissioner Jean-Romuald Ekuka Lipopo, stressed the importance of these meetings as a lever to identify the priority challenges facing the population. He expressed the need to put in place effective mechanisms to promote a transition towards sustainable development and lasting peace in the province.

Close cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was highlighted during these discussions. The coordinator of the decentralization, governance and planning programme at UNDP, Shighata Bakary Coulibaly, affirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the provincial government of North Kivu. He stressed the desire to provide an appropriate political-strategic framework to strengthen the province’s resilience to humanitarian crises, development challenges and peace and security issues.

Before the official launch of the work, intensive training was provided to around forty experts from the various provincial departments. These capacity-building sessions focused on crucial themes such as sustainable solutions to forced population displacement, the challenges of the Nexus programme, planning based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and tools for monitoring and reporting on development plans. This newly acquired knowledge is expected to contribute to a more holistic and effective approach to addressing the complex challenges facing the region.

In conclusion, the launch of the PAP-NK 2025 priority action plan is a decisive step for the North Kivu province. By adopting a multidimensional approach and relying on close cooperation with international partners, the region is giving itself the means to address pressing challenges and continue its march towards sustainable development and lasting peace.
