Recently, the Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, had fruitful discussions with his Iraqi counterpart, Saleh al-Hasnawi. Their meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral collaboration in various health fields, such as pharmaceuticals, the development of medical infrastructure, and training programs. This initiative aims to improve health relations between the two countries and promote the sharing of expertise for better care of populations.
The context of this meeting was particularly significant, since it took place on the sidelines of the World Conference on Population, Health and Human Development (PHDC’24), organized by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The theme of this conference was “Human Development for a Sustainable Future”, thus emphasizing the importance of the health and well-being of individuals to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future.
During their discussions, the two ministers highlighted the importance of the historical relations between Egypt and Iraq, as well as the fruitful collaborations they have been able to establish in various fields. They also explored opportunities for collaboration in mental health and addiction prevention, with the aim of maximizing the benefits for Iraq of Egypt’s addiction prevention programs.
Furthermore, the ministers discussed the issue of exchanging expertise in the field of population, by reviewing Egypt’s population mapping strategy, and agreed to coordinate health officials to implement concrete actions.
The Iraqi Minister of Health highlighted the valuable gains of the conference and reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to continue collaboration and exchange of experiences with Egypt in the field of health.
