The Congolese football team, the Leopards, beat Uganda 1-0 in a preparatory friendly match for the 5th day of qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be played in Côte d’Ivoire. The goal was scored by Théo Bongonda from the penalty spot in the 26th minute of the first half.
The victory is particularly important for the technical staff of the DRC, led by the French Sébastien Desabre, who thus wins his second friendly match with the DRC out of the four played so far. The Leopards of the DRC will face the Panthers of Gabon on the next day.
The Ugandan selection nevertheless played well, but Siadi Baggio, the Congolese goalkeeper, was decisive on two big Ugandan situations which could have changed the match.
This success will allow the Congolese technical staff to work on the atmosphere and the game of the team before the end of this course, Friday, June 16, to better challenge the Gabonese. The victory is rather positive for the Leopards, who will be able to learn lessons before the playoffs.
In short, the Congolese supporters were able to rejoice in a good performance by their team, even if the road to the African Cup of Nations remains long.
