Fatshimetrie, October 21, 2024 – A large delegation of Catholic clergy, led by the Apostolic Nuncio in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), met with the Minister of State for National Education and New Citizenship. The aim of this meeting was to discuss the broad outlines of education and to support the Five-Year National Education Program.
Monsignor Mitja Leskovar, spokesperson for the delegation, shared at the end of the discussions: “We had the honor of being received by the Minister and our discussions were rich, particularly on the key areas of education and the Five-Year Program established by the Minister to guide her mandate at the head of this Ministry of State.”
Stressing the importance of education for the future of Congolese children, Bishop Leskovar added: “It is essential to continue to develop the education sector and to find effective solutions together for the well-being of young Congolese people, who are the hope of tomorrow.”
The Bishop also spoke of the crucial role of the Catholic Church in the field of education, emphasizing the need for a more precise definition of its collaboration with the authorities. Recalling the agreements concluded in 2022 between the Congolese State and the National Episcopal Conference of Congo, Bishop Leskovar stressed that these agreements constituted “the basis for a renewed and fruitful collaboration between the Church and the civil authorities.”
This meeting between representatives of the Church and the Congolese government testifies to the importance given to education in the country. By working together, these major players are actively contributing to the improvement of the Congolese education system and the development of the younger generations.
