Capacity building workshop on MOU-CU for improving maternal and child health in the DRC

Fatshimetrie, October 17, 2024: A crucial initiative was launched this Thursday in Kisantu, in the Kongo Central province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This involves the organization of a capacity-building workshop for experts on the integrated approach of the Memorandum of Understanding and the Single Contract (MOU-CU) to optimize the management of deliveries.

Under the leadership of Dr. Polydor Mbongani, national coordinator of universal health coverage, this workshop aims to address the major challenges related to the sustainability of financing quality care and the extension of basic health services, in the context of the Lusaka agenda. The MOU-CU is proving to be an essential tool to guarantee optimal management of deliveries, a crucial issue for maternal and child health.

The program for these three days of workshops (from October 17 to 19) includes the presence of health professionals, technical and financial partners from the DRC, as well as representatives of institutions working for universal health coverage and the Ministry of Health. Thanks to the financial support of structures such as the CNSU, the INSP, the World Bank and the UG-PDSS, this event should allow participants to deepen their knowledge and strengthen strategies to improve the quality of care and expand access to essential health services.

This workshop is therefore positioned as an essential step in promoting quality childbirth care in the DRC. By promoting collaboration between health stakeholders and highlighting innovative approaches such as the MOU-CU, it opens up promising prospects for improving maternal and child health indicators in the country.

This initiative highlights the crucial importance given to maternal and child health in the DRC, a key sector for socio-economic development and the well-being of the population. It embodies the will of the authorities and partners to work hand in hand to offer every citizen equitable access to quality care, particularly with regard to maternity-related services. In this sense, this workshop is fully in line with an approach to strengthening the health system and promoting the well-being of mothers and newborns in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
