The security landscape in the North West of the country is a major challenge that concerns many citizens and authorities. In this challenging context, President Tinubu has demonstrated unprecedented initiative by putting in place a bold strategy to combat insecurity in the region. This new approach, dubbed “Fansan Yamma”, is intended to be a turning point in the war against bandits plaguing the region.
The decision to resort to military force to eliminate the bandits in their ruthless lairs has already started to bear fruit. The results obtained confirm that this aggressive approach is changing the game on the ground. The commitment and bravery of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, during his recent visit to the epicentre of the insurgency in Sokoto, is testimony to President Tinubu’s determination to eradicate the scourge of insecurity.
Matawalle’s visit to the eastern part of Sokoto State has had a significant impact on reducing the activity of bandits in the region. This development is a crucial step in the fight against insecurity and underscores the determination of the Federal Government to directly confront the terrorist menace.
It is critical that the governors of the North-West, in particular, work closely with the Federal Government to achieve tangible results in the fight against bandits. The commitment of Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto to mobilize federal resources to counter the security challenges is a commendable step that deserves to be commended.
Finally, mention should be made of the sustained efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff and the brave soldiers who sacrifice their lives to ensure peace and security in the northern regions that were previously marked by insecurity.
On the whole, President Tinubu’s “Fansan Yamma” strategy represents a ray of hope for the people of the North-West facing the terrorist menace of bandits. This bold and determined approach could well be the key to reversing the trend and ensuring a more secure future for the region.
