“60 years after the creation of the African Union, the MFPA calls for the reunification of African States in place of Genocost”

May 25, 2023 will mark the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of the Organization of African Unity, now known as the African Union. It was on this occasion that the Pan-African Federalist Movement (MFPA) organized a sit-in to call for the reunification of African states in place of Genocost. This initiative drew the attention of the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, to the importance of the political campaign for the reunification of African States.

Since the creation of the African Union, the MFPA has observed that the “top-down” approach to African political unification keeps people away from decisions and makes them suffer the consequences. Instead, the MFPA advocates a “bottom-up” approach, which recognizes the place of the peoples of the African continent in the political decision-making that affects their future. The political unification of Africa is a fight that the Pan-African Federalist Movement leads with honor.

By pooling the management of certain parts of their sovereignty in a Pan-African federal state, African countries will be able to reduce the sources of insecurity, disorder and instability that weaken their states. For Pan-Africanists, unity and community life are intrinsic characteristics of African peoples. The objective is therefore to achieve a better form of union between African countries by involving the populations in the discussions and the decision-making that affects them.

The MFPA stressed the importance of coming together to speak with one voice in order to strengthen the viability of States and the sovereignty of their peoples. It was on this occasion that the movement organized a sit-in in place of Genocost to get their message across. They also submitted a memorandum to the headquarters of the African Union, to the Presidency of the Republic as well as to Parliament to be identified and to let it be known that the youth is keen on the rebirth of the African political union.

In conclusion, the political unification of Africa is a crucial subject for the development of the continent. The Pan-African Federalist Movement (MFPA) organized a sit-in to call for the reunification of African states and increased popular participation in political decision-making. It is time for Africa to speak with one voice and unite to strengthen the viability of its States and the sovereignty of its peoples
