“The phenomenon of the kulunas, these alleged urban bandits who are active in the streets of Kinshasa, has been a major concern of the authorities in recent times. A total of 72 individuals suspected of belonging to this group were apprehended during an operation led by Deputy Divisional Commissioner Blaise Kilimbalimba. This action follows a resurgence in urban crime since the spectacular escape that occurred at the central prison of Makala.
The roaming mission led by Commissioner Kilimbalimba made it possible to arrest 25 individuals in Mitendi, in the commune of Mont Ngafula, and 47 others in the district of Tshangu. While traveling through the sensitive areas of the Congolese capital, from the west to the east, passing through the communes of Masina and Kimbanseke, the Deputy Commissioner reminded the police of the importance of their mission and their commitment to the population.
Accompanied by local mayors, Blaise Kilimbalimba also took the time to listen to the concerns of residents, thus demonstrating a participatory and inclusive approach in the fight against crime. With the promise to continue these patrols in all 24 communes of Kinshasa, the deputy divisional commissioner shows his determination to restore order and security in the city.
This action demonstrates the authorities’ desire to actively combat urban crime and guarantee the protection of citizens. By involving local stakeholders and increasing the number of control operations, Kinshasa is equipping itself with a solid arsenal to deal with this scourge and restore peace to the affected neighborhoods. The coming weeks will be crucial to measure the impact of these actions and assess the effectiveness of the measures put in place to ensure the safety of the residents of the Congolese capital.”
