The legislative elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo are a major event in the political life of this Central African country. After an audit of the electoral register which withdrew more than 3 million voters, the president of the CENI submitted the draft law to the Minister of the Interior. Through this preliminary draft, your site was able to obtain exclusive figures for the distribution of seats by province for the legislative elections.
In terms of distribution of seats, Kinshasa remains the province with the largest number of seats, with a total of 56 seats. North Kivu comes second with 47 seats, followed by South Kivu with 32 seats and then Haut Katanga with 31 seats. Surprisingly, Kwilu and Ituri tied for fifth place with a total of 28 seats each.
Grand Kivu remains the main geographical area with 91 seats, ahead of Grand Katanga with 74 seats and Grand Kasai with 68 seats. But the most important figures are those of Kinshasa, the capital which will now have 56 seats, 5 more than the 51 seats allocated during the previous legislative elections organized in 2011.
However, even if Kinshasa wins five additional seats, the Kasai space loses one place. In 2011, there were 83 seats for Kasai, compared to 68 in 2023. It should be noted that Sankuru maintained its 14 seats, while some others lost or won a seat, such as Kwango province, which went from 12 to 13 seats.
The number of registered voters for this election was validated at 43,955,181, an increase of 3.5 million voters compared to the previous elections in 2018. This increase proves the vitality of Congolese democracy, and that the Congolese are always ready to mobilize to assert their civic rights
