Fatshimétrie, October 7, 2024. The problem of parking in the city of Butembo is a source of concern and reflection, thus highlighting the issues related to the management of public space in this city in North Kivu. During a meeting between a provincial deputy and the commander of the Congolese National Police, possible solutions were discussed to overcome the lack of parking for vehicles.
Deputy Bienvenu Lutsumbi, elected representative of Butembo, raised the question of the need to develop dedicated spaces to accommodate vehicles, in order to facilitate traffic and avoid anarchic parking. In particular, he proposed exploiting certain available areas, such as the private EPST concession in Kavaghendi or Monseigneur Kataliko Street, to create suitable parking lots.
This approach is part of a desire to support the police authority in its measures aimed at regulating traffic and ensuring the safety of road users. Banning parking on some of Butembo’s main roads and restricting driving for children under 18 are necessary actions to promote better management of travel in the city.
At the same time, it is essential to involve the various stakeholders in civil society, such as shopping mall owners and motorcycle taxi associations, in raising awareness about the development of parking lots and compliance with traffic rules. This consultation and cooperation are essential to ensure a collaborative and effective approach to managing parking lots in the city.
Finally, the establishment of public and private parking lots, combined with ongoing awareness-raising among citizens and road professionals, will help improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of incidents. It is essential that everyone plays an active role in respecting parking and driving rules, in order to promote more harmonious and secure urban mobility in Butembo.
In conclusion, the issue of parking in the city of Butembo must be addressed in a holistic and inclusive manner, involving all stakeholders in the search for sustainable solutions adapted to the urban environment. The development of appropriate parking lots and raising awareness among road users are essential actions to promote peaceful and secure cohabitation on the city’s public roads. ACP/ JF
