Capacity building and technological innovation at Isau/Kin to train the architects and urban planners of tomorrow

The architecture and urban planning sector is constantly evolving, with increasing challenges and demands in terms of training and technological innovation. With this in mind, the Higher Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning of Kinshasa (Isau/Kin) is committed to strengthening its software and equipment for the coming academic year, with the aim of better training future architects and urban planners.

The Director General of Isau/Kin, Professor René Mpuru Mazembe, stressed the importance of providing the institution with adequate teaching materials, such as computers, specific software, printers and plotters. This approach is part of the desire to support the Bachelor-Master-Doctorate (LMD) system and to meet the requirements of the job market.

At the same time, discussions are underway with a partner for the construction of a new building to accommodate the institute’s lecture halls and offices. This project aims to improve the learning conditions of students and the working conditions of staff, by expanding the reception capacity of the establishment.

However, challenges persist in terms of financing, particularly for the construction of a dispensary and an administrative building that meets international standards. The management of staff salaries is also a complex issue, with a number of employees not receiving their remuneration adequately.

In addition, the City and Territory Research Center plays a crucial role in supporting entrepreneurship in the fields of architecture and urban planning in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Equipped with various cutting-edge tools and software, this center contributes to doctoral training at Isau and provides valuable expertise in the development of Congolese cities and homes.

By closing the previous academic year, Isau/Kin enabled 116 new architects and urban planners to enter the job market, thus highlighting its contribution to the profession and society as a whole.

This dynamic of capacity building and innovation within Isau/Kin demonstrates the institution’s commitment to training competent professionals and meeting the needs of the constantly evolving architecture and urban planning sector.
