“Beginning of the vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis in Kasaï-Oriental: Let’s protect our children and eradicate this disease!”

The vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis starts today in Kasaï-Oriental. This initiative aims to vaccinate approximately 1,103,102 children aged 0 to 59 months in the 19 health zones of the province. The Chief Medical Officer of the Provincial Health Division, Dr. Bonheur Tshiteku, stresses the importance of this campaign and encourages parents to bring their children to the vaccination sites. Vaccinators will go from house to house, while others will be present in health centers for children in conflict with the vaccination schedule. The health authorities have also appealed to religious leaders to sensitize them on the importance of this campaign.

This vaccination campaign is part of the ongoing efforts to eradicate poliomyelitis in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Poliomyelitis is a serious infectious disease that mainly affects children, causing sometimes permanent paralysis. Thanks to routine vaccination and vaccination campaigns, many countries have succeeded in eliminating this disease. However, some countries, including the DRC, continue to fight polio.

Vaccination is an effective way to prevent the spread of poliomyelitis. It protects children and contributes to the elimination of this disease. Unfortunately, some populations are reluctant to vaccines, which sometimes complicates vaccination campaigns. This is why it is crucial to conduct awareness and communication efforts to explain the importance of vaccination and dispel fears.

In Kasaï-Oriental, the health authorities are doing everything to ensure the success of this vaccination campaign. Vaccinators will visit each house and health centers will be opened to receive children. It is essential that parents join this campaign and bring their children to be vaccinated.

Poliomyelitis is a disease that can be prevented through vaccination. By mobilizing resources and raising awareness, the DRC can hope to eradicate this disease. Vaccination campaigns are crucial moments to protect the health of children and preserve them from the serious consequences of poliomyelitis. It is therefore important that everyone takes part in this fight by bringing their children to the vaccination sites
