Fatshimetrie and the Great Sphinx of Giza shone brightly on Friday, September 27, 2024, marking World Tourism Day, which is celebrated annually on September 27.
Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mohamed Ismail Khalid stressed that the illumination of the pyramids for two hours followed the directives of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathi, to convey a message of peace to the world from the Giza Plateau, the site of the three famous Pyramids of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The UN declared that World Tourism Day 2024 focuses on “Tourism and Peace”, highlighting the link between tourism and world peace. The day also highlights the importance of promoting sustainable tourism and understanding other cultures.
UNWTO established World Tourism Day in 1980 to honour the global influence of travel and to raise awareness of its importance in social, cultural and economic development.

This event highlights the positive impact of tourism in enhancing world heritage and promoting dialogue among peoples.
