The deterioration of the RN4 in the Tshopo region: a call for urgent action

In the Tshopo region, a disastrous situation persists on National Road Number 4, known by the acronym RN4, causing an ordeal for users. This section, linking Kisangani (Tshopo) to Beni (North Kivu), is currently in an advanced state of disrepair, causing serious problems for passengers and drivers who use it.

Testimonies report that the road is littered with large quagmires in several places, making traffic almost impossible. The critical points identified are mainly located at kilometer points 170, 180, 186, 202 and 205, with chaotic traffic conditions. For example, at kilometer point 205, a truck loaded with goods overturned, completely blocking the road.

This situation has led to impressive queues of vehicles, including tankers, buses carrying passengers and vehicles carrying various goods. These traffic jams extend for several kilometres, suggesting considerable delays for travellers and goods at their destination.

Despite the promises made at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the asphalting of this road in January 2024, work has been slow to begin. Users, already exasperated by the current traffic conditions, are legitimately questioning the use of taxes collected for the maintenance and improvement of road infrastructure.

In this context, the competent authorities are called upon to take urgent measures to remedy this critical situation. It is imperative to quickly repair this road which is vital for the regional economy, user safety and the well-being of local populations.

Ultimately, the deterioration of the RN4 in Tshopo province is a real challenge to ensure safe and smooth travel conditions. It is essential to act quickly to prevent this situation from continuing to hamper the development and well-being of the communities crossed by this important communication route.
