Essential collaboration between authorities and unions for an effective resumption of classes in the DRC

Fatshimetrie, September 23, 2024 – The unions of the National Education and New Citizenship sector are currently at the heart of the debates, called upon to play a crucial role in the resumption of classes. The recent restitution of the national conference of the annual review of the performance of the education sector was an opportunity for the authorities to recall the importance of raising awareness among teachers to ensure an effective resumption of school activities.

The provincial director at the Ministry of Education and New Citizenship, Michel Kadiata, highlighted the efforts made by the Congolese State to regularize the situation of teachers. He stressed the urgency of this awareness-raising in order not to compromise the students’ progress and avoid any delay detrimental to their training. The recommendations from the national conference, such as the quality of education and teaching in general, respect for the hierarchy in administrative exchanges and the ban on disclosing official documents on social networks, were insistently recalled.

The President of the Intersyndical, Futila Mbey, expressed his gratitude to the provincial director for organizing this meeting and committed to consulting the base before making decisions regarding the resumption of classes. This approach demonstrates the desire to take into account the opinions of teachers and to favor dialogue to reach a concerted solution.

It is undeniable that the current situation in the education sector requires close collaboration between the authorities, unions and stakeholders on the ground. The resumption of classes cannot be done without effective consultation and mutual understanding of the issues at stake. It is essential that everyone takes their responsibilities to ensure an environment conducive to student learning and the development of the educational community as a whole.
