“The cost of gasoline in Tshikapa is at an all-time high with serious economic consequences: a shortage of fuel and an increase in the cost of transport in town.

Title: The price of gasoline reaches a record level in Tshikapa

The cost of gasoline has reached a record high in the city of Tshikapa, capital of Kasai Oriental province. Prices went from 2,800 to 3,000 Congolese Francs to 3,800 or 4,000 Congolese Francs per liter. Economic operators in the region attribute this drastic increase to a shortage of fuel in supply locations.

“Our petrol depots are empty. We often refuel from Angola, through the borders of Kandjaji, Kabuakala, Mwamwengu, Shambwanda and others. But to our surprise, the Angolan authorities have now banned the exit of this petroleum product towards us in Congo Kinshasa”, declared an economic operator in an interview with POLITICO.CD.

The cost of petrol has also had an impact on the cost of transportation in town, where the cost of a motorbike ride has risen from 500 FC to 1,000 FC, according to multiple sources interviewed by POLITICO.CD.

This rise in gasoline prices raises concerns about the economic impact on people, and again highlights the need to diversify energy sources to avoid such problems in the future.
