“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently undertook a notable visit to the United States, beginning with a visit to a munitions plant in Pennsylvania. The meeting is of strategic importance, as he is expected to present his victory plan to counter Russia to President Joe Biden and other allies.
Zelensky stressed that this victory plan includes the use of long-range missiles on targets in Russia, a long-standing demand of kyiv. He expressed his determination, sharing: “This fall will determine the future of this war. Together with our partners, we can strengthen our positions to achieve our victory – a shared victory for a truly just peace.”
The Ukrainian president began his visit at the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in Biden’s hometown. He expressed gratitude to the workers for their ammunition supplied to Ukraine and stressed the importance of the production of 155mm artillery shells, which are essential to kyiv’s war effort. Zelensky praised the democratic spirit of these places, saying: “It is in places like this that you can really feel the dominance of the democratic world thanks to the hard work of people who make sure that life is protected, whether in Ukraine, in America or in all partner countries.”
Despite signs of a change in US attitudes toward easing restrictions on weapons, Zelensky noted that permission for the use of long-range weapons inside Russia has not yet been given. He expressed concern about the potential of these weapons, stressing: “We have long-range weapons, but not in sufficient quantities. Neither the United States nor the United Kingdom have given us permission to use these weapons on Russian territory.”
Zelensky attributed the hesitation of allies to fears of escalation, but he remains optimistic that he will be able to make his case during his visit. His upcoming meetings at the United Nations and with American politicians, including President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, promise to be key discussions on his plan for victory.
This important diplomatic visit offers Zelensky the opportunity to share his message not only with the current administration, but also with potential candidates for the American presidency. By meeting with world leaders and international organizations, he intends to outline his goals for ending the conflict in Ukraine.
Ultimately, Zelensky’s determination to lead his country to victory while strengthening international alliances resonates as a call for unification and the defense of democratic values.. This historic meeting underlines the urgency of collective action to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.”
