An innovative partnership between the World Bank and Kinshasa City Hall for a cleaner and more resilient future

The unprecedented partnership between the World Bank and Kinshasa City Hall to counter the devastating effects of climate change and combat poor sanitation in the Congolese capital is a major step forward in protecting and improving the living conditions of the city’s residents.

The meeting between Kinshasa Governor Daniel Bumba and the World Bank delegation on September 17 laid the foundations for a collaboration aimed at mitigating the damage caused by flooding, erosion and landslides attributed to climate change, which are seriously impacting the population of Kinshasa. Albert Zeufack, World Bank Country Director for the DRC, stressed the importance of this cooperation and its commitment to jointly addressing these environmental challenges.

The City Hall’s “Kin elanda” project, which has already provided more than 2 million Kinois with access to drinking water, is at the heart of this collaboration. The continued implementation of this essential project is a significant step towards improving the health and living conditions of Kinshasa residents. In addition, waste management, disposal and recycling as a potential source of energy and job creation are also major development axes envisaged within the framework of this innovative partnership.

By investing in sustainable solutions to combat the effects of climate change and promote responsible environmental practices, the World Bank and Kinshasa City Hall are paving the way for a healthier and more resilient future for the inhabitants of the Congolese capital.

This strategic partnership illustrates the importance of international cooperation and local leadership in tackling global environmental challenges, and highlights the need for concerted actions to build a more sustainable future for generations to come.
