“Zéro Polemik” Laughter Festival: Humor in the service of social cohesion

Kinshasa, September 19, 2024 – The “Zéro Polemik” laughter festival returns for its seventh edition in Bukavu, located in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Led by the initiator Joyeux Bin Kabodjo, this event aims to promote traditional culture while raising awareness among the population about intercommunity values. This year, the emphasis is on social cohesion, living together and intercommunity relations.

At the heart of this festival, education through entertainment occupies a prominent place. Indeed, the objective is to bring laughter back to the faces of the Congolese by addressing themes likely to strengthen social ties within the South Kivu region and the East of the DRC.

Joyeux Bin Kabodjo, director of the “Kwetu art” cultural space and coordinator of the festival, is committed to restoring the image of this region marked by the horrors of war. By registering this event as part of the activities of the “Bukavu Comedy Club”, it aims to bring a breath of lightness and positivity in a sometimes difficult context.

For this edition, several renowned comedians are expected, such as Samia Orosemane from France, Herman Amisi from the DRC, or the Rwandan-Burundian Michael Sengazi. These artists will bring their touch of humor and creativity in order to entertain, but also to raise awareness among the public on important societal issues.

The “Zéro Polemik” festival is not limited to comedy shows, it also offers training workshops for the city’s youth, as well as moments of exchange and meetings between artists and the public. These highlights contribute to strengthening the social fabric and encouraging dialogue and mutual understanding.

In short, the “Zéro Polemik” comedy festival is an essential event to celebrate culture, humor and diversity in a region that aspires to peace and solidarity. Beyond entertainment, it is a true call for unity and kindness, reminding us that laughter is a powerful weapon to overcome trials and build a better future.
