“In the DRC, the opposition denounces a hidden agenda to dismiss Moïse Katumbi from the 2023 presidential election”

The Together for the Republic federation of the city of Kikwit came out of its silence to denounce a hidden agenda aimed at removing their leader from the presidential race of 2023. This denunciation follows the searches carried out recently in the residences of Moïse Katumbi and of Salomon Idi Kalonda, Katumbi’s special adviser.

In an interview granted to ACTUALITÉ.CD, the Federal President, Jean Kitoko condemned these searches as being a serious violation of the rule of law in the DRC. He found it unacceptable that a residence be searched in the absence of its owner. The Ensemble ville de Kikwit federation demands the immediate and unconditional release of Salomon Idi Kalonda.

However, in a press release, the Congolese government defended the legality of these searches by affirming that they were part of the application of the law. However, this response did not convince Ensemble ville de Kikwit.

According to Jean Kitoko, all that is happening is a hidden agenda aimed at preventing Moïse Katumbi from participating in the 2023 presidential race. He called on the Congolese population to be vigilant in the face of the dictatorial excesses of the power in place.

This situation is very worrying and risks disrupting the electoral process in the DRC. Government should listen to opposition concerns to avoid conflict later
