“Installation of the youth parliament committee in Haut-Katanga, but the road to Pweto remains a major challenge”

The Province of Haut-Katanga recently set up its new youth parliament committee in the June 30 building in Lubumbashi. During this ceremony, the Pweto Youth Parliament was represented by five honorable parliamentarians, including the territorial president Sylvain Matipa, the vice-president Lycaon Dowo, the reporting secretary, and the deputy quaestor. These personalities were however forced to cross Zambian territory to reach Lubumbashi, due to the very advanced state of disrepair of the national road N°5.

This situation is all the more worrying as two large mining companies pay royalties and taxes in the territory of Pweto, but the funds thus collected do not seem to benefit the population. However, the Pweto-Lubumbashi road is essential for the economy and social life of the province. But the image of the provincial government in service in the territory of Pweto is catastrophic. The actions of Governor Jacques Kyabula, president of the political party ARD and president of Saint éloi Lupopo, are considered invisible by his detractors, who accuse him of having simply transformed a football team into a political party.

The experts wonder about the destination of the mining royalties attributed to the chiefdom, which seem to be used almost exclusively to maintain 2 or 4 small streetlights installed in different groups in the M’pweto chiefdom. Another notable point, several ministers of the provincial government represent Pweto, in particular that of communication and spokesperson of the Government, Arts (Kayumba de ACO de Dany Banza), Health (Hon. Joseph Nsambi) and Finances, Bruno Choma Choma.

For its part, the new committee of the youth parliament of Haut-Katanga, led by President Modeste BETU, was installed in the presence of the provincial minister of youth and many young leaders of the DRC. The ceremony also saw the participation of the Honorable National Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Hussein Ndala.

This new article sheds light on current events in the Province of Haut-Katanga, focusing on the installation of the new committee of the youth parliament. However, he also underlines the dysfunctions in the territory of Pweto, caused in particular by the deplorable state of the road N°5 and the little transparent use of the mining royalties
