Strengthening education and patriotism in the DRC: The presidential visit to the Kamina school

Kinshasa, September 16, 2024 – The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, recently made a notable visit to a primary school in the commune of Kalamu, in Kinshasa. This visit was part of his desire to strengthen the teaching of patriotism and promote love among Congolese people, values ​​that are essential for the harmonious development of the country.

At the heart of this primary school, named Kamina and dating from 1954, the Head of State spoke with the director, Mr. Itongo Léonard, on the importance of teaching the notions of patriotism to students. He stressed that love among Congolese patriots was a sine qua non condition for promoting the emergence of a united and prosperous society.

During his visit, Félix Tshisekedi also committed to improving teachers’ working conditions, particularly with regard to remuneration and the bonus linked to free education. This approach demonstrates his personal commitment to supporting the education sector and providing teachers with the means they need to carry out their work in optimal conditions.

In addition, Kamina School was chosen as a pilot school for the establishment of the school canteen system, a measure aimed at guaranteeing students access to healthy and balanced food. This initiative is part of the broader framework of the implementation of free primary and secondary education, one of the priorities of Félix Tshisekedi’s five-year term.

The mayor of the commune of Kalamu, Charly Luboya, welcomed the presidential visit and praised the Head of State’s commitment to education. He was tasked with proposing a rehabilitation plan for the Kamina school, including the construction of new infrastructure and the improvement of existing equipment.

In addition, modernization projects are underway at the Kamina school, including the renovation of the football field and the upcoming arrival of computer equipment for students. These concrete actions demonstrate the Congolese government’s desire to set up suitable educational infrastructure to promote students’ academic success.

Primary and secondary education remains a priority for President Félix Tshisekedi, who has made improving access to basic social needs one of his main ambitions for his second term.
