“Trade union delegation installed at the DGCDI in the DRC: a step forward for the workers”

The Directorate General of Industrial Development Corridors (DGCDI) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) installed its first trade union delegation on Friday 9 June. This union delegation, made up of six people, headed by Cynthia Kubiha Mugole, has a three-year renewable mandate. The Director General of the DGCDI, stressed the importance of the involvement of the inter-union in the supervision, training and monitoring of activities within the company.

The new union delegation is committed to defending all the interests and benefits of all workers without distinction, to guarantee them optimal working conditions. The president of the DGCDI intersyndicale, Cynthia Kubiha, underlined that their vision is to ensure the defense of agents within the company, by interacting with the employer through frank social dialogue and by guaranteeing the stability of the company.

The DGCDI is a public administrative and technical institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry of the DRC. It has set itself the objective of creating new interior corridors in the DRC and linking them to already existing cross-border corridors, carrying out corridor scoping studies and project pre-studies, and delimiting the species necessary for the development of the various corridors.

Furthermore, the DGCDI aspires to establish an effective operational management system and to finalize the operations manual for the DGCDI. The revitalization of cooperation with South Africa to revisit the 214 projects of the Central Congo Corridor is also one of its priorities. Finally, it aims to establish synergies with the various ministries and institutions that ensure its multisectoral vocation.

The DRC continues its efforts to guarantee optimal working conditions for its workers, by setting up trade union delegations which ensure that their rights are defended. It is a laudable orientation which contributes to the emergence of the DRC and to the improvement of the quality of life of its population.
