The Congolese First Lady exchanges with her Chinese counterpart Peng Liyuan during an official visit to China

The Congolese presidential couple made an official visit to China, during which the wife of the Head of State, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, was able to talk with her Chinese counterpart Peng Liyuan. This meeting was an opportunity for the Congolese First Lady to thank Mrs. Peng for the donation of medical equipment made by the Chinese government following the Coronavirus pandemic. This donation had been made through the Organization of African First Ladies for Development, a structure whose Vice-President recalled the important role in improving the well-being of African populations in general, and of women and children in particular.

Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi also invited Ms. Peng Liyuan to celebrate OPDAD’s 20th anniversary next June in Kinshasa, stressing the importance of collaboration between China and this organization to continue improving the lives of Africans.

During this one-on-one meeting, Ms. Peng also presented the “For the Health of Orphans in Africa” ​​program, which will begin on June 1, 2023 and will allow free medical consultations and donations of medical kits to orphanages. and other child care structures in Africa. The program will begin with raids organized by the Chinese Embassy in each country. The DRC will be active in the implementation of this program.

Finally, the two First Ladies also mentioned the “Excellentia” program, which grants scholarships to the best secondary humanities finalists in the DRC. Ms. Tshisekedi expressed the wish to send “Excellentia” scholarship holders to China to acquire specific knowledge in sectors such as the mining sector.

This visit to China marks a new stage in relations between the DRC and China, and strengthens cooperation between the two countries to improve the living conditions of Congolese and Africans in general.
