Will political tension in the Democratic Republic of Congo continue to escalate in the coming months? This is the question that we could ask ourselves in view of the latest exchanges on social networks between Jean-Claude Muyambo and President Tshisekedi. The leader of the Congolese Solidarity for Democracy (SCODE) party has criticized the decision of the Head of State to dismiss Moïse Katumbi from the presidential race next December and denounces arbitrary arrests.
Beyond these exchanges, rumors concerning a possible manipulation of the results of the polls persist and raise fears about the stability of the country. Indeed, some opponents were reportedly arbitrarily arrested. Weapons are also reportedly being planted on the farms of Moïse Katumbi by the army.
In addition, the province of Kongo Central is shaken by a persistent security crisis, paralyzes education and threatens the population. The ADF rebels continue to sow terror in the Rwenzori sector, while armed men are reportedly forcing entry to the residence of the leader of Ensemble pour la République.
However, certain initiatives aimed at easing tensions should be highlighted, such as the launch of a new agricultural program in partnership with Dem and Bio-Agro-business or the new wave of biometric identification of State agents.
Finally, on the sporting level, the DRC is preparing to face the Panthers of Gabon at the 2023 African Cup of Nations, while the security situation and the electoral process are the subject of discussions with the DRC ambassador to of the European Union.
If peace remains an absolute priority to allow all of these projects to be carried out, the next few months will be decisive in assessing whether the Democratic Republic of the Congo is able to maintain sufficient political stability.
