The draw for the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) competition for Africa recently took place in Maputo, Mozambique. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will face Nigeria and Egypt in this tournament which will take place from July 28 to August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The qualification of the senior ladies Leopards for this final phase is deserved since they won their second victory (101-53) against the Panthers of Gabon for the return match of the Zone 4-Central Africa qualifiers, after a large victory in the first leg (121-32) to Yaoundé in Cameroon. The Congolese Fauves were able to take advantage of the absences of the best teams in the area, such as the Cameroonians, who qualified directly.
Basketball fans can expect exciting matches at this event in the Rwandan city of Kigali. The DRC will have to pull out all the stops against Nigeria and Egypt to hope to reach the quarter-finals. Basketball is a sport that has always been very popular in the DRC, and even though the national team is still relatively young, it has already shown some talent.
This tournament will therefore be an opportunity for the Leopards Senior Ladies to show their potential and proudly represent their country on the international scene, while contributing to the promotion of sport in Africa and around the world.
