Fatshimetrie recently reported crucial information regarding the suspension of Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during a meeting held at Ward 1 in Ayetoro/lluagba, Kogi State. The decision to suspend Melaye was announced by the PDP Ward Chairman and Secretary, Abayomi Osamika and Yodson Dayo, respectively, during an official statement in Lokoja.
The statement revealed that Melaye’s suspension was a result of a Resolution adopted at a meeting of the PDP Ward Executive held in Aiyetoro on Thursday, September 12, and signed by all the executive members of the party.
It was stated that Melaye’s conduct had apparently caused embarrassment and brought the party into disrepute, thus warranting his suspension. The statement quoted: “The Ward Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 1, Ayetoro/lluagba, met on Thursday, September 12, 2024, to consider the report of the Disciplinary Committee charged with investigating allegations of anti-party activities against Senator Dino Melaye, a member of our great party.”
It would be recalled that Senator Dino Melaye had been invited to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on August 20, 2024, to answer some allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities, in line with the provisions of Article 57(4) of the PDP Constitution. However, he failed to respond to the invitation, thereby ignoring the authority of the party.
After careful deliberation, the Ward Executive has decided that the failure of Senator Dino Melaye to appear before the Disciplinary Committee was a blatant disrespect to the party and its leaders. His actions were clearly contrary to the PDP Constitution and the party’s principles of discipline. Consequently, his suspension was inevitable.
The suspension of Melaye by the PDP Ward is in line with the provisions of Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which empowers the Ward Executive to take disciplinary action against erring members. In their statement, the Ward leaders called on all party members to remain committed to the principles of party discipline and loyalty, stressing the importance of working together to build a strong and united party that is capable of winning elections and serving the interests of the people.
The suspension of Melaye by the PDP Ward underscores the importance of enforcing rules and norms within political parties. This decision also recalls that respect for the principles of discipline and loyalty is essential to maintain the integrity and credibility of a political party.Ultimately, it is essential that members of a political party work in harmony to achieve common goals and serve the well-being of the community.
