The Democratic Republic of Congo: new increase in the price of fuel in supply areas.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has experienced a new rise in fuel prices in the three supply areas, as indicated by an order signed by Vital Kamerhe, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the National Economy.

This decision is explained by the government’s need to ensure the balance of the petroleum product supply system and better manage the petroleum subsidy. In the western zone, which includes Kinshasa, the price increase is significant. Fuel oil, for example, now sells for 2,985 Congolese francs, up from 2,845 francs previously.

However, it is important to note that the last increase in the price of fuel dates from November 28, 2022. This increase was aimed in particular at relieving the cash flow of oil companies and maintaining the balance of the fuel supply system in the country.

Despite everything, the impact of this increase on Congolese consumers remains significant. It is also likely to increase the cost of goods, since the majority of local transport uses motor vehicles.

Indeed, transport in the DRC is difficult because of the many road infrastructures in poor condition. This price increase will therefore have a significant economic and social impact.
