Strengthening of security cooperation between the DRC and China, despite rising internal challenges

The Democratic Republic of Congo and China strengthened their exchanges and their cooperation in terms of peace and security during a meeting between the two heads of state, President Félix Tshisekedi and his counterpart Xi Jinping. The two countries have emphasized the fight against cross-border crime and joint exercises of their armed forces.

China is committed to supporting the DRC in the implementation of its military programming law adopted last year in order to strengthen the operational capacity of its armed forces. This law is a multiannual financial law which sets the deadlines for payment appropriations relating to the equipment and development expenditure of the Armed Forces of the DRC.

The meeting between the two heads of state took place in a context where the DRC is facing growing insecurity. In Kwango province, thousands of people have been displaced due to an ongoing crisis. The government has been called upon to intervene urgently to end the crisis.

The Congolese opposition is also repressed by the security forces, causing a rise in tension in the country. The recent elections revealed the political tensions still present in the DRC.

Despite these challenges, the DRC is showing a new media dynamic with the awakening of the Congolese opposition. It now remains to put in place a structured program to support this dynamic and build a better future for the DRC.

In addition, painter Patsheli Kahambo exhibits at Galerie Malabo in Kinshasa, reflecting the energy and aspirations of this country.

The DRC also faces economic challenges. To get out of the crisis, the government appointed Pascaline Zamuda deputy director of FONHAB to improve social housing.

For his part, Michel Losembe, involved in the BIAC affair, saw his case dismissed, but the bank remains in crisis.

Finally, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi’s accusation against Rwanda of being at the origin of the Teke Yaka conflict in Grand Bandundu brings a new subject of contention between the two countries.

The DRC faces many challenges, but it is ready to meet these challenges with courage and determination to build a better future.
