The Minister of Sports, François Kabulo Mwana Kabulo, affirms with force and certainty before the senators the holding of the 9th edition of the Francophonie games in Kinshasa from July 28 to August 6, 2023. During an oral question session with debate, initiated by the Honorary Minister of Sports Denis Kambayi Cimbumbu, the senators raised several concerns regarding the event.
The Minister also announced that the payment of athletes and officials will be made through the bank system. He added that the players who will take part in the match on June 18 have already received their cards and their salary payments are already underway.
Sébastien Desabre, the national team coach, also received his salary with a slight delay. This announcement should motivate the entire national team for the rest of the playoffs, after a difficult start.
This news comes in a context where the DRC is experiencing insecurity problems in certain regions, particularly in North Kivu, where military operations against the ADF rebels have not yet restored security.
The DRC is also preparing to launch the issuance of national identity cards after more than 30 years of waiting. A data transfer memorandum of understanding has been signed between CENI, ONIP and INS to achieve this.
Despite these advances, challenges persist in terms of sexual violence, to which a march in support was organized to demand exemption from legal fees for the victims. Nevertheless, positive initiatives such as the UNFPA competition to combat sexual exploitation have also emerged, with the film “Mlezi” winning first prize.
In addition, more than 900,000 children have been vaccinated to prevent the spread of poliomyelitis and the authorities have reinforced security in Kikwit to fight against the kuluna who have sown terror there.
Finally, the news in the DRC reflects a country in constant evolution, with significant advances, but also persistent problems which must be solved for the safety and the well-being of the citizens.
