“Revelations on the handover of power in the DRC and multiple issues: the inventory”

The DRC is currently rocked by a new revelation about the 2018 presidential elections, which would have seen a compromise between political actors to ensure a peaceful transfer of power between Joseph Kabila and Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi. Indeed, Jean Mbuyu Luyongola, Kabila’s former special adviser, claimed to have been sent to negotiate with Martin Fayulu Madidi, the third presidential candidate, to ensure the transfer of power to Tshisekedi. According to Mbuyu, Fayulu refused to negotiate and threatened to imprison Kabila’s emissaries. This revelation aroused reactions in all political camps, in particular among the fayulists who believe that the victory was stolen from them.

At the same time, several actions have been implemented to combat persistent insecurity in certain regions of the country. Military operations continue to eradicate the ADF in North Kivu, while a commission of inquiry has been created to fight against military abuses in the conflict zones. In addition, a support march was organized to demand exemption from legal fees for victims of sexual violence in the DRC. This initiative aims to encourage women victims of sexual violence to turn to justice despite the often insurmountable financial costs.

In addition, polio vaccination efforts continue. More than 900,000 children have been vaccinated to prevent the spread of this disease in the country. Finally, salary concerns have been raised in the province of Haut-Katanga, where civil servants are faced with recurring unpaid bills. An alert that recalls the need to strengthen social policy to ensure better well-being of populations.

Beyond these issues, Angola has decided to end the fuel subsidy to invest in social policies. This measure aims to encourage investments in key sectors such as education and health to improve the living conditions of the population. While on the side of Kikwit, the authorities have reinforced the security arrangements to fight against the kuluna, who sow terror in this city of the DRC.

In short, the DRC is facing many challenges, which require the mobilization of all political and social actors to build a better future for its populations.
