On June 8, 2023, four resident ambassadors in Kinshasa presented their credentials to the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. Among them is Zhao Bin, the new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, accompanied by China’s military attache in the DRC. The other three ambassadors are Doro Sy (Senegal), Alyson Ruth Grace King Obe (Great Britain) and Fortuna Dibaco Cizare (Ethiopia).
This ceremony took place after the swearing in of the Attorney General at the Constitutional Court and three Advocates General. These recent events show the current institutional stability in the DRC.
In June 2023, several other facts marked the news in the DRC. Indeed, the war against the ADF in the North Kivu region persists despite military operations, and the Commission of Inquiry in the DRC is working to fight against military abuses in conflict zones. The issuance of national identity cards is also underway after more than thirty years of waiting.
In addition, the salary situation of agents and civil servants in Haut-Katanga is worrying, and Nanou Memba is sounding the alarm about unpaid bills in the region. In Kikwit, a wave of insecurity is also recorded, and the authorities are strengthening security to fight against the kulunas.
However, the DRC also experienced several good news. More than 900,000 children have been vaccinated to prevent the spread of poliomyelitis, and Mlezi won first prize in the UNFPA competition to combat sexual exploitation in the DRC. In Angola, the end of the fuel subsidy makes it possible to invest in social policies.
The DRC is therefore a country on the move, with challenges to take up, but also successes to celebrate.
