INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu’s Assessment Visit to Edo State for Election Readiness

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, recently conducted an assessment visit to Edo State to evaluate the preparedness and readiness of the Commission for the upcoming election. Accompanied by key INEC officials, including the National Commissioner for Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa States, Prof Rhoda Gamus, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr Anugbum Onuoha, and the Administrative Secretary Emmanuel Ogbodu, Prof Yakubu expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation observed.

During the visit to Oredo, Egor, and Ikpoba/Okha local government areas, Prof Yakubu emphasized the importance of thorough preparation and testing of election materials. He reassured the public that all necessary funds had been disbursed for the election, with no reported complaints regarding financial allocations. The Chairman highlighted the successful mock accreditation exercise conducted to test the integrity of the systems in place for voter accreditation and result uploading.

“We are satisfied with the readiness of our local government offices and the technology being deployed for the election,” Prof Yakubu stated. He reiterated INEC’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible electoral process, emphasizing the Commission’s neutrality and dedication to upholding the choice of the electorate.

Addressing concerns over possible system failures during the election, Prof Yakubu assured stakeholders of the Commission’s proactive measures to prevent such issues. He encouraged all registered voters in Edo State to exercise their right to vote for the candidate of their choice, emphasizing that the responsibility of electing the next governor rests with the electorate.
