Title: Tennis – CAN Qualifiers: The Leopards Ladies of the DRC rank for 5th place after a defeat against Madagascar
The Women’s Tennis Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) ended their participation in the group stage of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers by losing by a score of 0-3 in front of the team from Madagascar. The pair Charlène Wantona and Nancy Onia, however effective in previous encounters, failed to resist the power of their opponents. The Congolese will play the classification match for 5th place against their Ethiopian counterparts.
The Leopards ladies of the DRC had however managed a good start to the tournament during the first two days with a victory over Tunisia (2-1) and Botswana (3-0). However, they have suffered two defeats in the last two days, against Cameroon (0-3) and Madagascar (0-3).
This defeat against Madagascar sent the Congolese to the bottom of the Group 4 standings, preventing them from reaching the quarter-finals of the competition. However, they will still have a chance to salvage their honor in the 5th place ladder game against Ethiopia on Friday.
Despite this disappointing end to the course, the Leopards ladies can be proud of their performance during this group stage. This competition was an opportunity for them to show their talents and their determination to defend the colors of the country on the continental scene.
Meanwhile, in the DRC, political and socio-economic events continue to drive the news. From the human rights situation to the fight against sexual exploitation in the humanitarian sector, including political tensions, there are always issues of concern for the country and its inhabitants.
Despite these challenges, the DRC can always count on the support of the international community to support its development and strengthen its diplomatic ties.
