In the relentless fight against organized crime, the Fatshimétrie law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the territory, thereby ensuring the safety of citizens.

During a high-risk operation in Ewu community, the authorities had a run-in with a suspected kidnapper, Joel Ochuko Ofoye, following which the suspect tragically died at the Ughelli General Hospital.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, disclosed details of the operation at a press conference held in Asaba. According to him, Joel Ofoye, who was earlier arrested on July 18, had led the law enforcement agencies to Ewu in an investigation into an arms dealer linked to kidnapping groups.

During the operation, the police were targeted by the suspect’s accomplices, triggering a deadly exchange of fire. Despite the bravery and reactivity of the police, Joel Ofoye succumbed to his injuries at Ughelli hospital. The seized arsenal, including firearms of various calibers, testifies to the dangerousness of the individuals targeted by the authorities.

Since July 25, the police command has orchestrated a series of successful arrests, locking up many suspects involved in kidnappings, robberies and criminal activities.
