The challenge of the Kasai Central Roads Office in the DRC: How to overcome the shortage of construction equipment

Fatshimetrie, September 4, 2024 – The Roads Office of the Kasai Central province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is facing a major challenge: the lack of construction equipment needed to maintain and rehabilitate local roads. This situation has hampered efforts to open up the province and its territories, thus impacting regional development.

According to the provincial director, John Badibanga, the lack of equipment such as loaders, tippers, graders, compactors and mechanical shovels has limited the operational capacities of the Roads Office. This shortage has forced the organization to subcontract the work to private companies, which has resulted in high costs and unsatisfactory performance.

However, despite these challenges, John Badibanga remains optimistic about the possibility of finding sustainable solutions to this problem. He stresses the importance of the involvement of public authorities to guarantee the acquisition of the necessary equipment and ensure the quality of road construction and maintenance work.

This situation highlights the urgency of investing in road infrastructure in DRC Congo, particularly in regions such as Kasai Central, where good roads are essential for economic and social development. Improving local roads will promote population connectivity, boost trade and enhance accessibility to essential services such as healthcare and education.

In conclusion, the availability of adequate construction equipment is crucial to ensure the quality and sustainability of roads in Kasai Central. It is imperative that the relevant authorities take concrete measures to address this issue, in order to boost the sustainable development of the region and improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.
