The security situation in the territory of Djugu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, does not seem to be improving despite the efforts of the government. The militiamen of the cooperative for the development of Congo (Codeco) are once again singled out, this time for a deadly ambush for the displaced persons of the Bule site, in the Bahema-Nord chiefdom, which killed three people, including one female.
The local civil society coordinator deplores the hypocrisy of this militia which had nevertheless participated in the peace dialogue in Aru. Military operations are requested against this refractory militia to the peace process. The discussions are all the more urgent because, in the absence of security, certain economic activities can become deadly.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, visited the region recently to soak up the situation. Despite this, the attacks continue and the local population is still affected.
The Congolese government must therefore redouble its efforts to strengthen security and peace in this region and save the lives that depend on it.
