*Fatshimetrie: Conquering sanitation in Kinshasa*
In an urban context marked by a growing accumulation of waste and growing insalubrity, the urban authority of Kinshasa recently unveiled a radical strategy to transform the Congolese capital. Under the leadership of Governor Daniel Bumba Lubaki, the new operation called “Coup de poing” promises to be a crucial turning point for the cleanliness and security of the city.
During a historic meeting bringing together all the mayors of the 24 communes of the city, the governor highlighted the urgent need for collective action to meet the challenges of sanitation and security in Kinshasa. The “Coup de poing” initiative aims to rid the city of the waste and garbage that clutter its streets, with the aim of not only improving its visual attractiveness, but also preventing the public health risks caused by insalubrity.
The problem of waste accumulation in Kinshasa is partly due to the inadequacy of waste collection and treatment infrastructure. Faced with this critical situation, the involvement of mayors is crucial to ensure the success of Operation “Coup de poing”. They are called upon to mobilize local resources and raise awareness among residents on the importance of maintaining cleanliness in their respective neighborhoods.
Beyond sanitation, the governor stressed the need to combat urban banditry, known locally as the “kuluna phenomenon”, which contributes to the growing insecurity in the city. Taking firm and concerted measures is essential to eradicate this scourge and ensure a safe environment for all residents of Kinshasa.
As part of his vision for a dynamic and welcoming capital, Daniel Bumba launched the five-year “Kinshasa Ezo Bonga” program. This ambitious plan aims to modernize and beautify the city by intervening on different aspects to restore its former glory. By replacing the old “Kin Bopeta” program, the governor is demonstrating his desire to place Kinshasa on the path to progress and development.
The success of these initiatives depends on close cooperation between the provincial government and municipal authorities. By joining forces and determination, they will be able to overcome the many challenges that lie ahead and realize the vision of a clean, safe and prosperous Kinshasa. The road ahead is fraught with pitfalls, but with unwavering collective will, everything is possible to transform the Congolese capital into a symbol of modernity and excellence.
