Meeting of the Steering Committee for the National Education and New Citizenship (EDU-NC) Sector Projects in Kinshasa

Tuesday, August 27, 2024 will be remembered as the day when the first meeting of the Steering Committee for the National Education and New Citizenship (EDU-NC) Sector Projects was held in Kinshasa. The Sankuru room of the Hilton Hotel, located in the commune of Gombe, served as the setting for this event of capital importance for the future of education in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Bringing together experts from the Ministry of EDU-NC, the Ministry of Budget and representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the main objective of this meeting was to take stock of the progress of the various projects funded by donors in the field of education in the DRC. The discussions were rich in discussions on current and future issues in the education sector, highlighting the crucial importance of these projects for the development and transformation of the Congolese education system.

The coordinators of the main projects, such as the Education Project for the Quality of Teaching at the Primary and Secondary Level (PEQPESU), the Equity Project for the Strengthening of the Education System (PERSE) and the Girls’ Learning and Empowerment Project (PAAF), presented essential information on the implementation of these initiatives and the challenges encountered.

In a speech marked by optimism and determination, the Minister of State, Minister of EDU-NC, Raissa Malu Dinanga, stressed the strategic importance of this meeting and thanked the technical and financial partners for their support. She stressed the need for effective coordination and a clear roadmap to ensure the success of these projects within the allotted time.

The PERSE Project Coordinator, Valère Munsia, welcomed the creation of the Permanent Steering Committee for the Education Sector, stressing the importance of taking charge of activities after the closure of projects and extending reforms throughout the country. He also stressed the urgency of investing part of the resources in education to ensure the effectiveness of the actions carried out and achieve the objectives set.

In conclusion, this meeting of the Steering Committee for the National Education and New Citizenship (EDU-NC) sector projects in Kinshasa represents a crucial step in the implementation of education projects in the DRC. It demonstrates the commitment of the authorities and partners to ensure quality and inclusive education for all Congolese children, paving the way for a better future for young people and the country as a whole.
