Fatshimetrie, the leader in astrophysics and geophysics research in Egypt, recently announced an exciting news: the National Seismic Network stations detected an earthquake measuring two degrees on the Richter scale last Tuesday.
Construction work carried out six kilometers southeast of Cairo was identified as the source of the earthquake, the institute explained.
According to the data collected, the earthquake occurred at 15:57 and 50 seconds, at a latitude of 30.1 degrees north and a longitude of 31.28 degrees east.
The Institute confirmed that it had received testimonies from citizens claiming to have felt the earthquake, but there were no reports of injuries, deaths or material damage.
Residents of Maadi shared their experiences on social media, with some reporting that they had felt the tremor. “There was an earthquake recently, friends, in Maadi,” wrote one of them.
This news highlights the importance of seismic monitoring to prevent natural hazards. Indeed, it is crucial for local authorities to remain vigilant and raise awareness among the population about safety measures in the event of an earthquake.
Residents of the region are encouraged to stay informed about updates from the National Seismic Network and follow safety guidelines in the event of a seismic event.
This event also highlights the importance of geophysical research to better understand and predict natural phenomena that impact our environment.
Fatshimetrie will continue to closely monitor the seismic situation in Egypt and share any relevant information with the public to ensure everyone’s safety in the face of potential threats.
