“The revival of fishing in the DRC: the new ONPA leaders ready to take up the challenge!”

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Office (ONPA) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was recently appointed by President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. With this in mind, the new ONPA leaders were received by the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Adrien Bokele Djema, to discuss the objectives and expectations related to their mandate.

The ONPA is part of the reforms undertaken by the Congolese government in order to boost the country’s fish production, modernize the fishing and aquaculture sector, and promote Congolese food self-sufficiency. According to Adrien Bokele Djema, ONPA is the vision of the Head of State who is determined to revive this key sector of the national economy.

ONPA’s main missions include the supply of fishing and aquaculture inputs, materials and equipment, the organization of the collection and distribution of fishing products across the country, the establishment of infrastructure fishing and aquaculture, the processing and preservation of fishery products, as well as the marketing and access to the market of fishery and aquaculture products.

With this in mind, the new officers of ONPA are committed to working in close collaboration with the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock to achieve these objectives. They express their gratitude to the President of the Republic for their appointment and promise to do everything possible for the well-being of the Congolese, in accordance with the vision of the Head of State.

This appointment comes as the DRC seeks to develop its fisheries and aquaculture sector to ensure food security for its population and boost its economy. With abundant fisheries resources, the DRC has enormous potential in this sector, but it is crucial to invest in adequate infrastructure and policies to take full advantage of it.

Expectations are high for the new ONPA animators, who will have to demonstrate effectiveness and efficiency in the short and long term to achieve the objectives set by the government. The success of ONPA and the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the DRC will have a significant impact on the economy, food security and the well-being of the Congolese people.

In conclusion, the appointment of the new leaders of the National Office of Fisheries and Aquaculture in the DRC marks an important step in the revival of the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the country. It is essential that these agents work in close collaboration with the authorities to achieve the objectives set and fully exploit the potential of the fishing sector in the DRC
