In the chiefdom of Bashu, located in the territory of Beni in the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, another massacre occurred. Suspected ADF rebels attacked the village of Katula and brutally executed sixteen people in a wake organized in this entity. There are also six seriously injured and people abducted by these attackers.
The governor of the province, Nzanzu Kasivita Carly, deplored the incident on his Twitter page. He calls for an intensification of military operations in this region to end this cycle of violence. This series of killings has been going on for some time now, every day people are killed by the alleged ADF in Beni.
This new massacre comes the day after another attack by these same rebels in Bunimba where civilians were kidnapped. The security situation in the region remains precarious and the populations need adequate protection. The government should work with the security forces to ensure the safety of the population and put an end to the growing insecurity in the region.
Furthermore, it is important to note that the political situation in the DRC remains tense. Opposition demonstrations were repressed by law enforcement in Kinshasa, and human rights abuses were observed. The international community must remain vigilant to the political and security situation in the DRC and support the government’s efforts to improve the situation
