“DRC: Current challenges and issues for the coming months”.

The news in the Democratic Republic of Congo is marked by several important events. First, the question of the distribution of seats by electoral district for the legislative, provincial, municipal and local elections continues to raise concerns among the population as well as national elected officials.

Moreover, the expectation of the fallout from President Félix Tshisekedi’s visit to China is palpable. Although the two countries have agreed on a comprehensive cooperation and a strategic partnership, the Congolese remain skeptical about a real change in the relations between the two countries.

The issue of the distribution of Congolese and Rwandan refugees is also at the heart of concerns. While the High Commissioner for Refugees has concluded an agreement with Rwanda and the DRC for the repatriation of refugees, relations between the two countries are still tense.

On the security side, the presence of the Yaka/Mobondo assailants in the bush aroused denunciation from the population. All security measures have been taken to deal with it.

Finally, the damage from the torrential rain continues to affect certain regions, such as the Patambamba village in Mweka territory, Kasai province, where 80 households are currently homeless.

The situation in the DRC therefore remains complex and many challenges remain to be met. The next few months will be decisive, especially with the elections scheduled for December 2023
