Kinshasa, June 2 – The “Proudly Ndundu” festival will make a comeback after a two-year hiatus. The 6th edition of the festival will be held in Kinshasa from June 12 to 13 under the theme “TEL QUE TU ES”. The director of the ASBL “Plus de couleurs”, Yan Mambo Kasongo, made this announcement during a press conference at the Espace Pigeon Vert in the municipality of Bandal.
The “More Colors” festival aims to bring color differences together and bring them together in harmony in a community. As for the “Proudly Ndundu” festival, it aims to encourage people with albinism to accept their identity as it is. Yan Mambo pointed out that he grew up in a time when being called “ndundu” was an insult. “Most albinos today will not mind being called Ndundu. They come to terms with who they are,” he explained.
The particularity of the 6th edition of the festival is the creation of three prizes: the Mwimba Texas Prize, for an albino who has stood out in society, the Kabasele Prize, for a non-albino person who supports albinos, and the Ilunga Prize Belgian police for albinos who have chosen to support the fight.
The press also questioned Yan Mambo about Zacharie Bababaswe’s remarks referring to opposition leader Moïse Katumbi as Ndundu. Yan Mambo said it was of no importance for albinos to be outraged by these comments. “My biggest struggle is that the albino person no longer feels embarrassed when the name Ndundu is mentioned,” he concluded.
We will follow this festival closely and will not fail to keep you informed of the rest of the events.
