Insecurity remains a major scourge in the DRC, as evidenced by a terrorist attack that took place in the chiefdom of Bashu, in North Kivu. The Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF) carried out a new deadly attack during the night of Thursday June 1, 2023 to Friday June 2, killing at least 9 civilians. Disappearances and material damage were also recorded.
This attack is unfortunately not a first in this region. The attackers looted several properties before killing and kidnapping civilians. Civil society and local authorities strongly condemn this new wave of violence.
To put an end to this butchery, it is urgent that the army intensify its patrols and take preventive measures. This attack would be revenge by the enemy for his losses during the destruction of one of his encampments.
However, it is important to note that the Beni region is also affected by other problems such as the deterioration of the roads. This last problem has a direct impact on the inhabitants, making them more vulnerable to attacks and making the areas more difficult to access for the security services.
Faced with this situation, it is imperative that the government take strong measures to solve these problems and guarantee the safety of its population.
The terrorist attack in the Bashu chiefdom is an unfortunate reminder of the continuing instability in parts of the DRC. It is therefore crucial that measures are taken to guarantee the safety of populations and reduce the risk of terrorist attacks in the future.
