Renewal of the mandate of the DRC Sanctions Committee by the UN Security Council: an important step forward for the stabilization of the country.

The UN Security Council plans to renew the mandate of the DRC Sanctions Committee, as well as its Group of Experts. When their respective mandates expire on July 1 and August 1, the members of this UN body, responsible for monitoring the application of sanctions measures imposed by the Security Council, will vote on a resolution to renew it. . The Committee is responsible for the arms embargo targeting foreign and Congolese armed groups operating in the North, South Kivu and Ituri regions. The Security Council is also expected to hold a briefing and consultations on the situation in the DRC, during which the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the DRC and Head of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO), Bintou Keita, should give a briefing.

The Security Council will also hold a meeting with the troop-contributing countries to MINUSMA, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, for the renewal of its mandate which expired on June 30. Before that, there will be a briefing and consultations on Mali, with the participation of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Mali and Head of MINUSMA, El-Ghassim Wane.

The situation in the DRC remains tense, despite efforts to ensure security in the country. Indeed, the armed groups continue to sow terror in certain localities. Moreover, civil society denounces a certain form of forcing in the electoral process.

However, there are notable advances, such as the stabilization of the Congolese franc on the official foreign exchange market, while the informal market remains affected. The government is also committed to strengthening local entrepreneurship, through the Young Congolese Entrepreneurs Fair.

Despite the challenges, the government must work to stabilize the troubled regions to reduce insecurity and improve the socio-economic situation of the country
