INCRESE: Promoting social inclusion and education in Nigeria

In recent news, the INCRESE organization found itself at the center of controversy following a social media post claiming it promoted homosexuality-related activities in the state. Dorothy Nuhu-Aken’Ova, Executive Director and Founder of INCRESE, spoke at a press conference in Minna to clarify the situation.

She expressed her frustration over a report written by someone poorly informed about the NGO’s activities, linking it to anti-cultural and religious practices. Nuhu-Aken’Ova categorically denied the allegations, saying the organization’s actions respected Nigeria’s constitution and were in no way contrary to the law since its inception in 2000.

Unfortunately, the spread of this false information led to threats of violence against INCRESE staff members, forcing the organization to close its offices. However, the NGO’s activities are laudable, focused on assisting victims of violence such as gender-based violence and violence against people, as well as keeping young girls in school.

Indeed, the organization provides support to Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and supports young people losing confidence to help them make informed decisions. Additionally, INCRESE received international recognition from Girls Not Brides and was ranked among the top three projects in the world aimed at keeping girls in school.

With nearly 3,000 beneficiaries across the country, including 1,000 in Niger alone, the positive impact of INCRESE is undeniable. The organization actively collaborates with the ministries of Health, Education, Women’s Affairs, Police, Human Rights Commission, Child Rights Commission and Parents’ Associations of Students to accomplish its mission.

With a focus on helping marginalized and disadvantaged groups, INCRESE promotes social justice, equity and inclusiveness. Its commitment to humanity is deeply rooted in upholding professional ethical standards and national, regional and international laws to which Nigeria adheres.

In short, it is essential to recognize the importance of the work accomplished by INCRESE to strengthen human rights, fight discrimination and promote the education of young people in Nigeria. The false allegations spread against her cannot tarnish the reputation and positive impact she has on society.
