Fight against infectious diseases in Africa: Research at the heart of health challenges

Africa, a land of multiple health challenges, is at the heart of global concerns regarding infectious diseases. In this context, the challenge of scientific research is essential to understand, prevent and treat these pathologies that affect the health and well-being of populations. It is in this dynamic that the One Health Institute for Africa (INOHA) recently organized scientific days dedicated to infectious diseases in Kinshasa.

During this event, 47 research projects were validated, symbolizing a significant advance in the fight against infectious diseases in Africa. These projects, led by Congolese and foreign researchers, were presented at the Amphitheater of the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB), thus marking an essential international collaboration to advance science.

One of the highlights of these scientific days was the recognition of the Master of Ecology of Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kinshasa, now integrated into INOHA. This integration highlights the importance of academic training in the field of public health research, thus enabling students to actively contribute to research and innovation in the field of infectious diseases.

The presentations of the research projects were an opportunity for learners to interact with experts in the field, receive constructive feedback and nourish their thinking. The participation of jury members and international speakers via the Zoom platform enriched the debates and opened new perspectives for research in infectious diseases in Africa.

In conclusion, these scientific days on infectious diseases in Kinshasa highlighted the importance of research in the fight against these pathologies that impact public health. The collaboration between Congolese and international researchers, the involvement of students in research, as well as the presentation of innovative projects, are all essential elements to strengthen knowledge and actions in infectious diseases in Africa. These initiatives demonstrate the commitment of the scientific community to work together to address public health challenges and improve the well-being of African populations.
